AI Document Parsing

When you photograph or upload a service invoice, receipt, or maintenance document, MotorScribe transmits the image to Google's Gemini AI. The AI reads the document and extracts structured data — service date, mileage, work performed, parts, and cost — then returns it directly to your app as a formatted record entry.

The document image is processed transiently and is not stored on our servers after analysis is complete. All extracted data is saved locally on your device and in your iCloud.

Yes — every AI-generated record is fully editable before and after saving. After the scan, review all extracted fields and tap any field to correct it. AI parsing is a starting point, not a final record. You are always in control of what gets saved.

For best results, photograph invoices on a flat, well-lit surface and ensure all text is in frame.

MotorScribe can parse a wide range of vehicle documents, including:

  • Shop invoices and repair receipts
  • Dealer service records
  • Oil change and inspection stickers
  • Parts receipts and modification bills
  • Handwritten service notes (accuracy may vary)

The scanner works best with printed, typed documents. Faded or heavily handwritten records may require manual correction.

No. Images you upload for AI scanning are transmitted to Google's Gemini API for processing only. They are not retained by MotorScribe after analysis. Your extracted record data is stored locally on your device and, if enabled, in your personal Apple iCloud account — not on our servers.

iCloud Sync

When iCloud sync is enabled, your vehicle records are automatically synced to your personal Apple iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This keeps your data backed up and available across all your Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID.

MotorScribe does not have access to your iCloud data. It is encrypted by Apple and governed by Apple's iCloud Terms of Service.

Try these steps in order:

  • Confirm both devices are signed into the same Apple ID
  • Go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud and confirm MotorScribe is toggled on
  • Check that you have available iCloud storage (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage)
  • Force-close and reopen MotorScribe on both devices
  • If issues persist, toggle iCloud off and back on for MotorScribe in Settings

If none of these resolve the issue, contact support with your device model and iOS version.

Storage usage depends on the number of vehicles, records, and photos you have saved. Text records are very small. Vehicle photos are the primary storage consumer. A typical garage with 2–3 vehicles and moderate photo use will generally use well under 1 GB of iCloud storage.

Records & Data Management

To delete an individual service record, open the record and tap the delete option in the top-right menu. To delete an entire vehicle and all its records, go to your Garage, long-press the vehicle card, and select Delete Vehicle.

Deleted records are removed from your device and iCloud. MotorScribe holds no copies on our servers, so deletion is permanent.

Yes. You can export a vehicle's complete service history as a PDF directly from the vehicle detail screen. Enthusiast and Collector subscribers can also generate a shareable Seller PDF — a print-ready dossier of the vehicle's full record, suitable for handing to a buyer or mechanic.

If iCloud sync is enabled, your records are preserved in iCloud and will be restored when you reinstall MotorScribe and sign into the same Apple ID. If iCloud sync was not enabled, deleting the app will remove locally stored records. We strongly recommend keeping iCloud sync enabled as your backup.

You can request account deletion by emailing [email protected] with the subject line "Account Deletion Request." We will process your request within 30 days. This removes your account information from our systems. Your vehicle records stored in iCloud are under your control and can be deleted separately from your iCloud settings.

App Store & Billing

All MotorScribe subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple. MotorScribe does not handle payments or billing directly. To cancel or manage your subscription:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone
  • Tap your name at the top → Subscriptions
  • Find MotorScribe and tap it to manage or cancel

You can also manage subscriptions via the App Store → your profile icon → Subscriptions.

Since all billing goes through Apple, MotorScribe does not have access to your payment information or the ability to issue refunds directly. For billing issues:

If your subscription is active in Apple but not reflected in the app, open MotorScribe, go to Settings → Restore Purchases and tap Restore.

Upgrade to Enthusiast or Collector at any time from within the app for unlimited records, vehicles, and scanning.

No. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. MotorScribe never sees, stores, or handles your payment details. Apple's standard purchase and privacy protections apply to all transactions.

Yes. You can switch billing frequency at any time through Apple's Subscription management (Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → MotorScribe). Changes take effect at the start of your next billing period. Annual billing saves approximately 20% compared to monthly.
